Nature Schools and Camping Sites
The Israeli Nature Protection Society (Chevra Lehaganat Hateva) runs a chain of unique hostels located in nature reserves and regions of natural interest. These hostels are inexpensive, simple and usually a lot of fun. Most nature reserve hostels have a common kitchen and provide tours and information of the surrounding region. These hostels are a great place to meet other travelers both foreign and Israeli, who, like yourself, wish to explore the beauty of Israel’s nature reserves. The staffs of these hostels are quite friendly and helpful and are a good source for information, most of which you won’t find in any travel guide.
Recognized camping areas can be found in numerous locations throughout Israel. These sites are usually quite basic and are generally designed in order to protect the wildlife from the deleterious effects of unauthorized camping. Camping at these sites is free of charge and they usually provide picnic tables and a place to make a fire. Nature reserve camping sites are often located deep within the nature reserves and are sometimes frequented by animals, which makes them a good place for animal watching!
