Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and one of the world’s great holy cities. Jerusalem offers hotels that cater for every requirement, taste and budget. The city has three distinct areas: The Old City is the Jerusalem of legend, where some of the holiest sites of Judaism, Islam and Christianity are within a short walk of each other. The New City (or Western Jerusalem) lies to the west of the Old City; and East Jerusalem – to the east.
Jerusalem is a 50 minute drive by taxi or hired car from Ben-Gurion International Airport, and one hour’s drive from Tel Aviv. The following information will help you choose the optimal location for your stay, before you book a hotel in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem Hotels in the New City
Many of the four to five star hotels in Jerusalem are located in the New City, just west of the Old City walls. Most of the four and five star hotels in this area are located in and around the prestigious King David Street, where the famous King David Hotel is situated. Most of the hotels cater for business and leisure or family stays alike. The hotels in this area are within easy walking distance of the Old City and many of Jerusalem’s other attractions are easily accessible on foot or by a short taxi ride. The charming neighborhood of Yemin Moshe (one of the first Jewish neighborhoods outside the old city walls) and the Montefiore Windmill are nearby, as is the Sultan’s Pool and the Jerusalem Film Center. Jaffa Street, the main shopping area is a short taxi ride away, as is Ben Yehuda Street, for shopping, cafes and restaurants. The famous Jerusalem YMCA is also in the vicinity and there is a youth hostel on nearby Agron Street.
Givat Ram Hotels
Givat Ram is located further west of the Old City and near many of the New City’s landmarks, including the Hebrew University (Givat Ram Campus) and the Knesset – the Israeli Parliament House- and government offices. The Shrine of the Book – where some of the Dead Sea Scrolls are on display - and the Museum of Israel are also located in this district. Accommodation options include the five star Crowne Plaza hotel and the Yitzhak Rabin Hostel.
Mount Scopus Accommodation
Mount Scopus is situated to the north of the Old City. This is the location of the main Hebrew University campus, making Jerusalem hotels and hostels at this locale the perfect choice for students and visiting family. The city center is easily accessible by a twenty minute bus or taxi ride, making Mount Scopus a good base for a Jerusalem vacation. Accommodation options include several hotels and youth hostels.

Although there are no major Jerusalem hotels in the old city, there are several youth hotels that are located within a short walking distance from Jaffa Gate. In addition, there is also a hostel in the Jewish Quarter. The Old City hostels are ideal for visitors on a tight budget, and those seeking a unique experience.
Ein Kerem Guesthouses
